Message for Saturday 24th August 2002 Bet strength recommendations - none Horses to note - Beyond the Clouds / Mungo Park (3.45 Beverley) - 0.5 points each way on each Flat turf system bets : NDB - no qualifiers DSB - no qualifiers ------ Review of Friday racing Quiet day on Friday - only brief analysis of two races : Newcastle 8.10 - Desraya and The Old Soldier were non runners, while Blackheath fnished 4th. Thirsk 4.45 - Mary Jane managed to win from his low draw anyway - however it was made much easier by 3 non runners cutting the field to 12. Saturday racing We need to be a little careful again with some rain around - any major easing of the ground will affect the chances of certain horses. Beverley 3.45 - lots of interest here with several horse drawn high that can be fancied. Beyond the Clouds - drawn 13 which may just be too wide. Would have been a win bet from 16 or higher. Well handicapped and likes this course. 5f on good to firm ideal so hopefully there will be no more rain. Mungo Park - drawn 16. Ran well from a wide draw last time at Pontefract. Another well handicapped horse, but needs everything to fall right. Confident the horse will get placed, but can it win? Sir Sandrovitch - another horse that likes this course. The firmer the better. Will need the breaks at the right time. Drawn 19. Kissing Time - drawn 18 and pulled out of a race at Thirsk yesterday. Not out of it, and I assume the trainer feels that this is a decent opportunity from a good draw; but others preferred for me at the likely shortish price. Time N' Time Again - has the prime draw in 20 and will surely lead up the rail. Back to form recently (ran very well 2 races ago at Pontefract when 2nd) and had no chance from a poor draw here at Beverley last time - did very well to finish 5th. Another very well handicapped animal and must go very close. To conclude - many positives for Time N' Time Again, but the price won't be anything to write home about (same applies to Kissing Time). Beyond the Clouds looks the each way pick and has to be backed. Mungo Park is also too tempting to ignore, and unusually I will suggest two each way bets in the one race. Other thoughts : Newmarket 2.10 - Texas Gold reappears as does Hout Bay. Tight little race, but I expect both horses mentioned to be in the 1st three and hopefully one win will. Goodwood 2.15 - good race this. Halmahera is drawn 9 of 21 which is not brilliant but is better than at Ripon last time or at Goodwood the time before. Overdue a success on a course that suits. Any easing of the ground would not be a problem. Peruvian Chief looks to be less fortunate having bagged the 2 stall. Still a winless on turf, but expect another big run from this one. Princes Street and Bon Ami at bigger prices should be of interest to the each way players. Newmarket 2.45 - Dream Magic looks the each one here. Curragh 5.00 - 30 runners, but likely to be some draw bias to help solve the puzzle. High should be best here. Clanboyo (drawn 23) has been dealt the best draw of horses I have noted. Should run a solid race. Vijay (drawn 1) looks to have been unlucky as has Buttons Galore (drawn 7). Goodwood 5.05 - Mr Spliffy runs again - back in own age group on a track that should suit his trailblazing tactics. The 2 draw may not be such a problem in this smaller field. If near to his best he could win this. Redcar 6.00 - Desraya would have been a definite bet on good to firm, but the rains have reached the track. Could still win, as this is a weak race, but too risky for me on the likely good to soft ground. Cheers Dave |
